Commissioning

Sarah Quartel SVG mask

Partnering with an ensemble on a commissioning project is my greatest joy as a composer. When I write a new work for a group, I prepare by getting to know the commissioning musicians as deeply as I can. I listen to your recordings, watch videos of your performances, ask questions about who you are as a choral community, and thoughtfully reflect on the goals you have for our collaboration. The most treasured works in my catalogue have come from partnerships where I’ve had the opportunity to interact directly with singers and build lasting relationships with the commissioning choral community.

I am committed to writing music that I love and feel strongly connected to. When I write a commissioned piece, it is my goal that you, the commissioner, feel the same way. I hope to write something that is a strong reflection of your ensemble and can be enjoyed by your singers for many years to come.

Please contact me directly to discuss your project ideas and to learn more about fees which vary according to length, forces, and timeline.
